Quetzaltenango

 

Quetzaltenango is an active city full of life in the centre of the Guatemalan Highlands. Tourists will find here a lot of services like churches, hospitals, clinics, bookshops, supermarkets and traditional markets. Quetzaltenango has also a big offer of amusement. There are different bars, discos, cinemas, theatres, internet cafes, sport centres, parks, concerts and football matches. For the more active people are there organisations for eco tourism who offer packages like climbing and camping in the mountains. Near the city are hot water springs and saunas, mountains, volcanoes and places where you can enjoy the impressive nature. There also are a lot of Maya towns in the surrounding of Quetzaltenango. When you have a walk through the streets of these towns, you will see Mayas dressed in colorful, traditional costume while they are selling fruit and vegetables on the market.

 

Zone 1

Casa Latina is located in zone 1 of Quetzaltenango, also called the historic centre. In this area you will find everything you need during your stay in Quetzaltenango. Casa Latina is located just a few minutes walk from Parque Central. In this park you will find a little craft market every first Sunday of the month. Around the park are many bars and restaurants where you can have a drink or some food. Besides there are a lot of shops, banks, markets en also the supermarket is close by the park. It is easy to travel to other parts of Quetzaltenango because there are a lot of minibuses which drive through the whole city.

 

Climate

In Quetzaltenango is it warm during the day and almost the whole year sunny. Maximum temperatures are between the 21 and 30 degrees Celsius. During the night, the temperature drops down till around 10 degrees Celsius. In general is September the month with the most rainfall.
